Scrolling through my Instagram feed, I often come across images positively beaming with gorgeous light -- light that makes me stop scrolling.

Most of the time, though, we are all taking photos in slightly less than perfect lighting situations. But you don't see professional photographers scrapping entire sessions simply because the lighting wasn't perfect.

There are times when lighting is absolutely terrible and there isn't a lot we can do about it except for introduce artificial light or work with what you have! Personally, we can make the choice to put down our cameras and be in the moment but during client sessions that isn't an option!

If you cannot blow away the viewer with stunning light, there are myriad ways to create impact and interest in other ways. Utilizing your eye for the other 'tools' at your disposal, you can still create powerful portraits in light that is "fine".
